Basic Eye Tests Miss What Matters Most

Not all eye checks are the same. See what a standard screening covers—and what your child receives with a paediatric consultation at Optiplex.

Normal / Basic Eye Test

  • Quick distance-vision check (letters on a chart)
  • Limited assessment of eye teaming and tracking
  • No formal evaluation of reading focus (accommodation)
  • Minimal binocular vision testing
  • General advice; short appointment

Optiplex Children’s Consultation

  • 45–60 minute assessment of clarity, eye health, and development
  • Measures convergence, tracking, and eye teaming for smooth reading
  • Focus (accommodation) testing to reduce fatigue and headaches
  • Full binocular vision work-up to identify eye turn or suppression
  • Evidence-based myopia control plan (ortho-K, specialised lenses, eyedrops)
  • Plain-English parent debrief, written plan, and teacher report if helpful
  • Child-centred consults; experienced with autism and ADHD

What exactly happens during a 60-minute children's assessment?

We check vision clarity, eye health, focusing ability, eye coordination, depth perception, colour vision, and discuss findings with parents in detail.

Is orthokeratology safe for young children?

Absolutely. Ortho-K is TGA-approved and has been safely used for decades.
